Montana Heritage Center

RLMG’s media at Montana’s state museum transports visitors from time immemorial to the present day, immersing them in vibrant cultures, geologic events, and vast landscapes – bringing them face to face with compelling figures who call Montana home.

RLMG worked closely with the museum’s architects to integrate media as a textural element in a large public lobby. Scenes of industry and innovation are projected directly onto sandstone walls, cut through by LED fissures that display environmental animations of ice, lava, and more. An overhead display encourages visitors to flow into the museum gallery.

Within the 16,000 sq. ft Homeland Gallery, RLMG designed over 20 media pieces that provide a well-modulated visitor experience – from immersive spaces within historic mines and homesteader cabins to interactives that dive deep into archives. The media focuses on storytelling in both sweeping and intimate ways, involving a diversity of voices throughout history to today.

Montana Media - Celebrate Montana

RLMG’s linear pieces tell stories through bold and impressive form factors. Celebrate Montana includes a series of 2-4 minute features on notable Montanans. Employing cinematic styles and incorporating on-camera interviews, the linear pieces throughout the gallery showcase the beautiful landscapes of Montana while treating the interview subjects with respect and depth.

The Mineshaft

Among the highlight experiences is the Mineshaft, a “ride” experience complete with a motion platform, fully immersive media, sound, lighting, and scenic elements. Visitors step into the cage of a mining elevator and plunge deep into the Earth. Combining animation with digitally enhanced archival mining footage from 1925, the displays transport people into the mines and into the lives of miners.
