The Science Center of Iowa wanted to give their existing planetarium content a more visitor-curated approach. RLMG had the perfect answer to this challenge – we let visitors control the cosmos through Cosmic Playlist.

Customizing the Cosmos

The story of the stars starts before visitors even set foot in the Star Theater Planetarium. Before entering the planetarium, visitors first visit the Cosmic Playlist kiosk where they select a series of intergalactic video clips that will make their stunning show. They also select the mood, the name, and the color that will show up on their unique playlist. 

Once visitors enter the planetarium, they are immersed in the sound and color of their catered playlist.  Our kiosk software pairs each user-selected presentation with a musical score meant to evoke the mood the user selected. The show itself enhances the learning experience by offering extended narration with each selected clip. Visitors learn about supernovas and other space phenomena while being wowed by the images above them. Finally, the username they entered is flashed across the domed planetarium screen, bringing a sense of ownership and pride to their viewing experience.
