Agua Caliente Cultural Museum

The new Agua Caliente Cultural Museum shares the Tribe’s culture for generations to come and anchors a cultural plaza that was named one of Time Magazine’s World’s Greatest Places in 2024.

A giant 360 degree theater, 35-feet in diameter, features a dramatic animated version of the Creation and Migrations stories. Soaring visuals, floor projections, and a 16-channel soundscape immerse viewers in the clashes of the creator brothers, the scheming of Coyote, and the world that the ancestors of the Agua Caliente inhabited.

A world-building, 60-foot-long projection features the drama of the sky and the ridgelines of the Indian Canyons. They are integrated seamlessly with dimensional, fabricated canyon walls and gallery lighting. Bighorn sheep walk the ridgelines, the sun sets, birds fly, and a thunderstorm rolls through in this 15-minute-long ambient show.

The history of the Tribe to the present day is projection mapped onto a dimensional model of the Coachella Valley. We watch as native trade routes morph into wagon trails and then train tracks. Imagery of the destruction of native homes is juxtaposed with the glamor of hollywood stars. The City of Palm Springs expands, as do golf courses. Shadows of planes flying overhead skim the mountainous surface, and the camera takes us underground to the aquifer.
