As one of the nation’s first and oldest independent libraries, the Athenaeum works to present its rare collections to the public in new, innovative ways. Inside the brand new Norma Jean Calderwood gallery, an elegant interactive invites visitors to explore the interdisciplinary world of contemporary art books.
Visitors can flip through selected works via a beautiful 4K touch experience. The interactive is built with the connection of “high craft” and “high concept” in mind. Content introduces visitors to the artists’ books, lauding the breadth of craft and subject matter behind these pieces with a new level of depth. Visitors can zoom in on the details of selected pages and explore pop ups of the artists’ process notes, videos, and inspirations. They give an inside look at the level of care and artistry that goes into these exquisite works.
