The History Colorado Center opened in 2012 with a mission – to have visitors experience Colorado from an entirely new perspective. RLMG partnered with the HCC to actualize this mission in 28 distinctive media experiences.

The HCC experience begins in the building’s massive atrium where two iconic media pieces make a powerful visual impact. A dynamic, 22-foot Christie MicroTile display showcases over 30 minutes of animation including a panoramic overview of Colorado’s history and a timeline of important events from Colorado’s earliest humans to the present day. On the atrium floor, visitors interact with a giant terrazzo map of Colorado using an H.G. Wells-inspired “time machine.” As they wheel the machine across the floor, playful short videos are triggered on its embedded screens.

Throughout the museum’s two initial galleries, RLMG created a variety of media experiences that seamlessly integrate technology with exhibit environments and historic artifacts. Visitors can sit inside a Model T and take a Sunday ride through the plains, complete with bumpy roads and scenic views, and an interactive game introduces the colorful characters who populated the 19th century trading post at Bent’s Fort. Other highlights include a virtual ski jump, and a media-rich tour of a silver mine.
